How these lists are made

Every list on this site is compiled by the Capital Readers team from published reviews, reader consensus, and AI-assisted research — not by a single self-styled expert. Nothing is placed, paid for, or included because it sells well.

Who writes this

This site is produced by the Capital Readers team using AI-assisted research over published reviews, reader ratings, and each book's own reception, then edited before publishing. We do not invent personal credentials or a fabricated expert panel to make that process look like something it isn't.

Researched, then ranked

A title enters consideration only after its reception has been reviewed across multiple sources. We rank on what the book teaches a reader who does not already know the subject: clarity of explanation, quality of evidence, and whether the advice survives contact with a real balance sheet. Popularity is evidence of nothing, and neither is a bestseller list.

Revisited monthly

Lists are re-examined every month and the date of the last review appears on each page. Books drop off when a better explanation of the same idea appears, when data ages badly, or when an edition goes out of print. Where a book is contested — Piketty and Graeber both are — we say so in the entry rather than quietly leaving it out.

How we make money

Links to Amazon and Bookshop.org are affiliate links: a purchase may earn us a commission at no extra cost to you. Commission rates are identical across every book we list, so no ranking can be bought or nudged by revenue, and no publisher can pay for placement. Full details are on the affiliate disclosure page.

Not financial advice

Everything published here is a book review. It is not personalised financial, investment, tax, or legal advice, and it cannot account for your circumstances. Where a book's advice is jurisdiction-specific — most US personal finance books are — the entry says so.

Corrections

If something here is wrong, write to us and we will correct it and note the correction on the page. That includes disagreements about a ranking, which we will publish where the argument is good.

One list. One book. Every two weeks.

A short, opinionated email — no filler, no fifty-book roundups. Just what's worth reading next.
